Hannes was born in Adelaide, Eastern Cape 1987, Matriculated from Cradock High School 2006. In 2007 he started his studies in B Ed Intermediary and Senior Phase at University of the Free State. Hannes taught at various schools namely Adelaide Gymnasium, Gill College, Union High School, Apax English Centre (Vietnam) and Narsingstraat Primer. In 2022 Hannes joined GBG in Graaff-Reinet. He enjoys the outdoors and playing sports, he is also heavily committed to contributing in his community where he dedicates his time to help at schools or committees
